Els municipis
L’any 2000, els municipis de Tiana, Tona i Riudecanyes van implantar per primer cop a Catalunya un servei de recollida selectiva porta a porta.
L’extensió de la recollida selectiva de la matèria orgànica seguint l’imperatiu de la Llei 6/93 i ara l’ampliació a tots els municipis de Catalunya, la implantació del cànon per disposició de residus des del 2004, la tasca de difusió del sistema porta a porta per part de l’Associació i dels seus socis fundadors i el coneixement i demostració d’un sistema de recollida selectiva aplicable a molts petits i mitjans municipis de Catalunya, expliquen l’extensió del sistema des del 2000.
Més de 80 municipis fins a mitjans de l’any 2009 han implantat, totalment o parcial, un sistema de recollida selectiva porta a porta. Tenint en compte que en alguns municipis s’ha implantat parcialment el sistema porta a porta, s’estima en més de 250.000 habitants a tot Catalunya el nombre de persones que disposen d’aquest servei:
